Sometimes browsing can be quite slow even if we have a fast internet connection so here’s a little tip to get your browser mega fast! To do this we need to do a little registry editing so follow this tip at your own risk. Be sure to make a backup of the registry before making any changes to the registry.

Click Start | Run (Windows Vista users just click Start)

Type regedit in the run box
(Windows Vista Users type regedit in the search box)

Click OK
(Windows Vista click on the regedit program link and then click Yes when asked “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?)

From the left hand pane of the registry editor navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

Check in the registry editors right-hand column for the following two lines values: MaxConnectionsPerServer MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server

If these values are present, right-click on the first value (MaxConnectionsPerServer), select Modify from the drop-down menu, click Decimal, and set the Value data field to 6. Repeat this process for the second value.

If the values are not listed, right-click on a blank area of the registry editors’ right-hand pane then click New, and then click DWORD Value.

Enter MaxConnectionsPerServer for the name of the new DWORD Value and press Enter. The new value should now appear in the registry editors’ right-hand pane.

Right-click the on the new value and click Modify.

As in step six, click Decimal and set the Value Data field to 6, then click OK.

Repeat steps 7-10 using MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server as the new DWORD Value name (instead of MaxConnectionsPerServer).

Close the registry editor and start up internet explorer and check out your browsers new found speed!

This is a question often asked and the answer is no. However, if you want your computer to perform well then I would suggest learning how to manually edit the registry but in my opinion, it’s easier to just get a registry cleaner. Alright it might cost you a little money but it saves you a lot in time believe me.

Editing and cleaning the registry manually takes ages and it’s not good on your eyes and add to that it’s hideously boring! So for $30 dollars or whatever, you can keep your registry clean and it only takes a few minutes.

Alternatively you could do nothing and hope your computers registry looks after itself which probaly isn’t going to happen. You can expect blue screen errors and crashes and programs will take forever to start up. It’s a no brainer really isn’t it?

Check out our reviews on the best registry repair software.

A registry cleaner is a great thing to have in your arsenal of computer maintenance type software. The thing is that some people have the misconception that a registry cleaner has some kind of special power and that it has the ability to repair any computer problem. Wrong, wrong, wrong!

Ok if you keep getting errors or blue screens crashes etc. the chances are there are some errors in your registry but there could potentially be something else causing your computer to crash and give out constant error messages. I run my registry cleaner on my computer once a week to keep it in good order but I also run it after I have uninstalled a software program as well thus making sure that any entries the software has left over get cleaned out.

Doing this works and keeps my programs running quickly and performing how they should. This should be done as part of a weekly maintenance routine and this will ensure your PC operates efficiently. In your maintenance routine you should be scanning for viruses and spyware and also checking the hard disk for errors. Defragging is also important and be sure to backup your data regularly in case of hardware failure.

I can definitely relate to people who say “I’ll do the computer maintenance thing tomorrow, I’m to busy to do it now” and then forgetting to do it again and again and that’s when computer problems appear. I can relate to this because this is how I use to be with my PC and I just got fed up with the slowness of my computer that I kept to a regular computer maintenance routine and I hardly have any computer issues. Check out our reviews page and find out what we think is the best registry cleaner on the market.

It is becoming an increasingly difficult task to provide the correct information regarding the best registry cleaners and so this post will hopefully enlighten you as to how to gage the effectiveness of a registry cleaner program.

You can start by checking out what features the registry cleaner has and this should give you a clue as to how effective the software will be in eliminating registry problems on your computer. For example if you receive constant dll error messages then you want to make sure that the software you are looking at will scan for and fix dll errors.

Another thing that is probably the most important is how easy is it to use the program? It’s no good getting some software that can fix any computer problem if no one can actually use it. Most registry repair software offer free trials so trying before you buy is probably a good way to go.

When running software that makes changes to the registry you need to be certain it’s safe. If the software doesn’t let you backup the registry before running then I would advise to steer clear of that product. Having said that most registry cleaners do backup the registry automatically before running but it’s something you should look out for.

It’s difficult to say which is the best registry cleaner because it’s is a really competitive market but at the time of writing my top pick is Registry Fix with Registry Easy coming in a close second. Take a look at our Registry Fix review which is our featured registry cleaner.

If you want to know how to increase computer speed, please follow the steps below and you should see a substantial performance increase from your PC.

How clean is your disk?
For our computers to operate at their best they need at least 15-20% of free space on the disk. So basically, if you have lower than 15% of free space you need to go through all the installed software on your machine and deciding if you really need it or not. Remove the stuff that is just sitting there that you have only ever used once. You can use the disk cleanup utility that comes with the Windows operating system to get rid of lots of temporary files and bits of junk.

To run disk cleanup:

1. Click Start .

2. Click All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Cleanup .

3. Disk cleanup will calculate the free space on your computer, which may take a few minutes.

4. After the calculation is complete, confirm that only the following checkboxes are checked:

• Downloaded Program Files

• Temporary Internet Files

• Recycle Bin

• Temporary Files

5. Click OK and Yes when prompted to delete files. Disk cleanup will delete the files and close automatically when finished.

Ok now that you’ve cleaned out all the junk, you want to run the disk defragmenter. This will ensure your files are all packed together on your hard drive and this will give a very good performance increase but only if you run the defragmenter regularly. I recommend defragging every day. To run disk defragmenter:

1. Click Start .

2. Click All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Disk Defragmenter .

3. In the disk defragmenter dialog box, select the drive you wish to defragment then click Defragment.

Is your registry tidy?

The registry on your computer contains all the settings and preferences of all the software installed on your PC so it is important that this is kept in good order. Overtime the registry can become cluttered with invalid registry keys from old software installations and sometimes, viruses and spyware can mess up the registry. So if after doing the above, you’re still having performance issues such as blue screen errors or crashes, or maybe your programs take too long to start up then it might be worth scanning your computers registry. You can use a program such as Registry Fix to scan your computers registry for free to see if your registry has any errors. If it does contain errors you will then find out how you can eliminate those errors. Now this program does cost money but it is a lot safer than editing the registry by hand.

Will more RAM help?

Getting more memory for your PC will most definitely help and the performance increase gained is usually very noticeable, however, if you get more memory and don’t have a regular computer maintenance regime then over time your PC will just get really slow again so keep on top of it. For good computer memory I recommend Crucial.com .

If you liked my post ‘How to increase computer speed’, please leave a comment and please feel free to ask questions.
